How to Open an Unsigned App on Windows: SlideSnap Studio.exe
Windows SmartScreen may block unsigned apps by default. To open SlideSnap Studio.exe, follow the steps below.
Windows SmartScreen Warning
When you first run SlideSnap Studio.exe, you may see a blue window saying "Windows protected your PC" with a message that SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting.
- Click "More info":
Look for the More info link below the warning message and click it.
- Click "Run anyway":
A new button will appear at the bottom labeled Run anyway. Click it to launch the app.
- Done:
Windows will remember your choice and allow SlideSnap Studio to open normally in the future.
If SmartScreen Doesn't Show "More info"
On some systems, you may need to adjust SmartScreen settings:
- Open Windows Security (search for it in the Start menu).
- Go to App & browser control.
- Under Reputation-based protection, click Reputation-based protection settings.
- Temporarily set Check apps and files to Off, run the app once, then turn it back on.
Unblocking a Downloaded File
Windows may mark downloaded files as blocked. To unblock:
- Right-click on
SlideSnap Studio.exe and select Properties.
- At the bottom of the General tab, look for a message: "This file came from another computer and might be blocked..."
- Check the Unblock checkbox.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Try running the app again.
Windows Defender / Antivirus False Positives
Occasionally, antivirus software may flag unsigned applications. If this happens:
- Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history to see recent detections.
- Find the SlideSnap Studio entry and select Allow or Restore.
- You may also add the app folder to your antivirus exclusions list.
Notes
- This process only needs to be done once per version of the app.
- SmartScreen warnings appear because the app is not code-signed, not because it is harmful.
- If you downloaded a ZIP file, extract it fully before running the app.
